Dear Prime Minister,
I am writing to express my grave concern for Nguyen Thuy Hanh, a humanitarian and widely respected human rights defender who faces up to 20 years in prison under Article 117 of the Criminal Code, after her arrest in 2021.
In April 2022 she has been transferred to the Central Institute of Forensic Psychiatry, where her condition worsens. Nguyen Thuy Hanh’s work has always focused on helping the families of prisoners so that they can see their loved ones. Nguyen Thuy Hanh is a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for her peaceful human rights and humanitarian work.
I urge you to ensure that Nguyen Thuy Hanh is cleared of her charges and released immediately and unconditionally. Pending her release, I urge you to grant her access to sufficient medical care and is treated in accordance with international human rights standards.
